Our Objectives
This Professional Learning Module will achieve the following objectives:
1. Provide an overview of Understanding by Design (UbD) framework. Thousands of educators across the country use the Understanding by Design framework, created by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, to get a handle on standards, align programs to assessments, and guide teachers in implementing a standards-based curriculum that leads to student understanding and achievement (ASCD).
2. Answer the question, “What Does Teaching Look Like When Using the UbD Model”?
Wiggins and McTighe (2005) suggest that classrooms employing the UbD framework use more constructivist approaches as teachers encourage students to explore and develop their own understandings and perspectives of material. Teachers in such classrooms employ a variety of teaching methodologies ranging from direct instruction and coaching to more constructivist approaches such as guided inquiry, group discussions, explorations, etc.
3. Help the teacher understand how to begin implementation of the three stages of the UbD Framework.
